Ascent Community, Hilltop Reserve, Achieves Exclusive LEED Gold Certification

June 15, 2022 By ascentlc

Ascent Living Community’s Hilltop Reserve community received recognition recently in Mile High CRE for achieving LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Here is an excerpt from the article…

Hilltop Reserve Senior Living Community has been awarded the prestigious LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the first senior living community in Colorado to achieve the LEED Gold level. At 324,559 square feet, it’s also the largest senior living community nationwide.

Built by Catamount Constructors and supported by LEED for Homes Provider Energy Logic, Hilltop Reserve is located at the intersection of Leetsdale Drive and Holly St. at 525 S. Holly Street. Denver’s newest senior living community delivers 124 Independent Living residences, 56 Assisted Living suites, and 25 Memory Care suites within a building that features the full scope of LEED building amenities and standards focused on green building materials, water conservation, energy and atmosphere, indoor environmental quality, waste reduction and overall sustainability.

The community’s enhanced landscape design in a two-tiered courtyard minimizes turf and maximizes drought tolerance with native plants that earned points in Outdoor water use, and delivers residents visually appealing, as well as highly functional and accessible outdoor spaces. Hilltop Reserve is capped with a rooftop of photovoltaic solar panels that generate enough electricity for 60 single-family homes annually.

“We are exceptionally proud to bring the first LEED Gold Certified senior community to our state,” said ALC Founder and Principal Tom Finley. “It’s very rewarding to deliver the urban amenities, refined architecture characteristic of the Hilltop neighborhood and amenities typically associated with luxury living while also focused on sustainability and ensuring that we are doing everything possible to help protect the long-term health of our city and our planet.

“This is an important and significant achievement for our community and for our industry and I hope that we have helped to set the bar high for future developments as well,” added Finley. “We’re honored to receive this recognition and excited for the growing population of seniors that will call our community home in the decades to come.”

Coronavirus Update – June 16, 2020 at 7 p.m.

Dear Village at Belmar Community,

We are writing to you this evening to provide an update regarding the 8-week testing period of all associates at the community.  This testing period has been mandated by the State of Colorado for all senior living communities and we voluntarily requested to be one of the first to receive the state’s supplies to start this process.  We began week one of this testing process last week and tested all associates. Testing was conducted Tuesday through Thursday of last week, and results were processed by the laboratory for the Colorado Department of Health.

We tested 92 associates and received those test results back from the State of Colorado laboratory this week.  Of the 92 tests that were performed, one associates tested positive and was asymptomatic.  This associate was removed from the weekly staffing schedule, and contact tracing was done on that associates interactions over the prior 10 days.  Based on the nature of the job duties and support that this associate provided to the community, we identified approximately 75 residents who we will require testing to ensure their safety.  This associate’s interactions spanned over Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care.  We can tell you that this associate was not in a caregiving role, and interactions with any residents were extremely limited, transactional in nature, and the associate was wearing proper PPE.  The specific residents and/or family members of residents who had contact with the associate will be advised of the testing of their loved one.  The tests that we will perform for residents will be processed by our laboratory, and we expect to have those result back Thursday and Friday of this week.

The State of Colorado mandated associate testing will continue this week, with over 90 additional tests that will be administered today through Thursday.  We will continue to communicate with you as those tests occur and will let you know if other positive test results from our associates are detected.

The associate who tested positive had labored breathing last night and was admitted to the hospital.  We understand that their condition is improving, and we are staying in communication with their loved ones to track their progress as their body processes this virus.  Our thoughts and prayers are with this valued associate.

We thank you all for your patience and understanding during this difficult and uncertain time.  We also want to reiterate that nothing is more important to us than keeping our residents, families and associates safe and healthy during this pandemic.  We will continue to update you on this situation as additional pertinent information comes available, and we will continue to work diligently to keep of our community safe and healthy.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to Village at Belmar’s Executive Director, Michael Ruback.

Sincerely,

Susie Finley and Tom Finley

Dear Village at Belmar Community,

As a follow up to yesterday’s letter, we wanted to share the final 10 results that we were waiting on.  We just received all 10 results and they were all negative.

We have now tested a total of 185 assisted living and memory care residents and associates with the total number of positive cases to 2 residents and 3 associates.

We continue to be in close communication with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Jefferson County Health Department and are following their direction and protocols, as well as those of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Governor’s office and our Medical Consultant, Dr. Gagandeep Singh.

We thank you all for your continued patience during this difficult and uncertain time.  We are also excited to announce that we have established a Village at Belmar Hotline for future updates.  This line will regularly have recorded messages to keep all of you informed and updated.  The phone number for this hotline is (720) 545-0363.  These messages will start on June 1st and we will be discontinuing our written updates in lieu of the recorded messages.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to Village at Belmar’s Executive Director, Michael Ruback.

Sincerely,

Tom and Susie Finley – Founder and Principal

Dear Pine Grove Crossing Community,

We wanted to get a note out to all of you to touch base and provide some updates.  First and foremost, we are pleased to report that we have not had any additional symptomatic residents or associates.  The one associate who tested positive continues to recover at home and we look forward to welcoming this person back to the community once we obtain two negative test results.

We are establishing a testing protocol that will involve regular testing of all associates and will share that plan with all of you once it is established.

Based on the time that has elapsed without any new instances of symptomatic or positive residents or associates, we feel comfortable in beginning to relax our guidelines and allow residents to once again travel out of their apartments to common areas of the community as long as they wear a mask and maintain social distancing.  We are also working on several other initiatives that we hope to roll out in the next few weeks that will allow for some interactions between our residents and their family members.

Please be advised that if we do encounter another positive resident or associate, we would likely reinstitute the travel out of apartment restrictions to prevent the spread of infection.  Additionally, allowing residents to travel through the community would require us to cast a wider net if contact tracing needed to be done again.

We are also excited to announce that we have established a Pine Grove Crossing Hotline for future updates.  This line will regularly have recorded messages to keep all of you informed and updated.  The phone number for this hotline is (720) 874-9097.  These messages will start on June 1st and we will be discontinuing our written updates in lieu of the recorded messages.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to Pine Grove Crossing’s Executive Director, Rita Waxon.

Sincerely,

Tom Finley and Susie Finley

Coronavirus Update – May 28, 2020 3:30 p.m.

Dear Village at Belmar Community,

We know that you have all been anxiously awaiting the results from our remaining testing of all of the Assisted Living & Memory Care residents and associates, but we wanted to share with you as complete a report on the results as possible.  Every Assisted Living and Memory Care resident and every associate at Village at Belmar has now been tested.

On Tuesday, May 26th, we received 31 test results.  Of those tests, 29 were negative and 2 were positive.  Of the two positive results, one was an Assisted Living resident and one was an associate.  Once again, both were and continue to be asymptomatic.  The associate is resting comfortably at home and the resident has been added to the Staffing Bubble where they have dedicated caregivers that will not interact with any other residents or associates.

Yesterday, May 27th, we received 65 test results.  Of those tests, all 65 results were negative.  Today we received the remaining 16 test results which wrapped up nearly all of the resident and associate tests.  Of those 16 results, all 16 results were negative.  We have 10 tests that were rejected due to shipping damage to the vial and those tests were re-swabbed today and we will have results tomorrow.

In summary, we conducted a total of 109 tests since last Friday and identified 1 asymptomatic resident and 1 asymptomatic associate.  We have now tested a total of 175 assisted living and memory care residents and associates which brings our overall total positive cases to 2 residents and 3 associates.  While we wish we could report all of the tests were negative, these results are reassuring; we have been able to limit and isolate the number of positive cases within the community.

We continue to stay on top of our PPE needs and have adequate supplies of necessary products as well as pending orders coming in.

We thank you all for your patience during this difficult and uncertain time.  We will continue to update you on this situation as additional pertinent information comes available, and we will continue to work diligently to keep the rest of our community safe and healthy.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to Village at Belmar’s Executive Director, Michael Ruback.

Sincerely,

Tom and Susie Finley – Founder and Principal
